Explore the wonders of Latvia the best possible way — by car!
Car rental is the most time-saving way for visiting the forests, wetlands, remote sights and the impressive seaside. Latvia is a small country and you can drive from Riga to almost anywhere within a couple of hours.
The traffic in and around Riga is mostly easy to handle. However, during the rush hour between 7 and 9 AM, and between 5 and 7 PM, there are many traffic jams, especially close to bridges across the Daugava river. To save time, it’s better to avoid driving during these hours.
For driving in the city, a mid-size car is a good choice. If you plan a road trip in Latvia or visit beaches near Riga, we recommend renting an SUV or a more spacious car for your comfort. If you wish to rent a car in Riga during the winter months, you’d want to consider a four-wheel drive for extra safety. We’ll take care of the obligatory winter tires and equipment.
The speed limit on urban areas across Latvia is typically 50 km/h (31 mph). On public roads, the limits are usually 90 km/h (55 mph), and on high-speed roads, it is allowed to drive with a maximum speed of 100 km/h (62 mph).
